Lumbini Tour

Lumbini Tour

Among the four major pilgrimage sites around the world for Buddhist followers, Lumbini is one of them where Lord Shakyamuni Buddha was born in the 6th century B.C. Buddhist followers believed that we must visit this holy place once in a lifetime. Lumbini is a place of pilgrimage for Buddhists as well as a place of respect for peace lovers of any religious faith.

Mayadevi temple is located in the sacred garden and it is the main attraction where archeologists found a birthmark Stone of Prince Siddhartha Gautam in 1996. This marker stone pinpoints the exact birth spot of Lord Buddha. There is also the Statue of Maya Devi giving birth to Siddhartha Gautam. Also known as the Nativity Sculpture dates back to 4th CE, which depicts the Nativity scene. Maya Devi holding a branch of a tree with the right hand for support at the time of her delivery.

The historical Ashoka Pillar was erected in 249 BC by Indian Emperor Ashoka is just located next to the Maya Devi temple. It is the first epigraphic evidence with reference to the birthplace of Shakyamuni Buddha.

This sacred holy place is situated about 281km southwest of the capital city of Kathmandu. Lumbini is developing not only the hub of religious tourists but is also developing mainstream tourist attractions according to the master plan. For that many organizations from different countries have built many monasteries and temples inside the Lumbini garden, some are still under construction.

Some of the important sites around Lumbini that are related to Lord Budhha and previous Buddha are Tilaurakot: the ancient capital of Kapilvastu, the palace of Suddhodhan where Prince Siddhartha spent his first 29 years. Kudan: The place where Lord Buddha met his father Suddhodhan after he returned from cosmic enlightenment. Devadaha is the ancient capital of Koliya Kingdom and home of Lord Buddha’s mother Maya Devi, his stepmother Prajapati and His wife princess Yasodhara, Ramgram: According to the history, eight historical stupas were built on the Indian subcontinent with the relics of the Buddha and Ramgram is one of them, Araurakot is believed to be Natel city of Kanakmuni Buddha. The rectangular fortification wall is magnificent even in its ruins, Niglihawa: the birthplace of Kanakmuni Buddha, Sagarhawa: It is a forested area with a long Lake also known as Lumbusagar where thousands of Shakyas were massacred by King Virudhaka and Gotihawa: the birthplace of Krakuchanda Buddha.
