There are many wonderful and scenic places for day hiking nearby the Kathmandu Valley. Those areas are not important only naturally but also religiously and culturally too. Among them, from Changunarayan Temple via Tilkot to Nagarkot area has a mixed beauty of both nature and religion. Beautiful terraces, temples, greenery, stupas, mountains, cities, hillocks can all be seen during the day hike. It’s a perfect day trip to get rid of noisy Kathmandu city and enjoy the countryside. The highlights of this day hike are Changu Narayan Temple, Newly built Buddha Park, and Nagarkot Hill.
Changu Narayan Temple is located at an altitude of 1,700m north of Bhaktapur city and it is listed as a World Heritage Site. The temple is believed to be the oldest temple in Nepal. Changu Narayan Temple is built on top of the hill and has a very scenic spot.
The beautiful Buddha Peace Park is recently built by the Tamang community from nearby villages. The main attraction is a massive golden statue of Shakyamuni Buddha and colorful pray flags hanging around the Park.
Nagarkot: The most popular tourist hill station close to Kathmandu city and the favorite place to spend the weekend for both domestic and foreign tourists from where you witness the splendid Himalayan view and countryside.
7:00 am Leave from your hotel and Drive to Sakhu and start the Hiking to Changu Narayan Temple-Tilkot-Buddha Peace Park-Nagarkot and Drive back to Chappal Karkhana.
